First Mama Hen
21 days ago one of our favorite hens, Pamela Halpert, was sitting in her nesting box for longer than usual. Usually she hops right out of the box and loves to say hi. She is by far the most fearless and feisty hen we have.
Once we realized she wasn't getting up because she was sitting on eggs, we decided to give her a few more eggs from other chickens to see what she would do. Then we saw the most beautiful thing, she took her beak and gently accepted the eggs by brushing them under her pancaked body.
Eggs take 21 days to develop. Yesterday, on day 20, 6 hatchlings hatched early.
There are not words that describe how beautiful it is to see the new Mama hen taking care of her babies. Today a few more eggs will hopefully hatch!
